Does the countries of Panama and Jamaica have a strong bond? |
I heard that Panama and Jamaica has had a really strong bond because of the building of the Panama Canal. And lets not forget about the reggae music connection. |

I am sure they do have a strong connection. They have a lot in common, just like you said.
If you want to know the specifics, maybe you can talk to someone at one of their embassies. |

That is a crazy notion. What kind of bond do you mean anyway? Political, cultural. I've never heard of Jamaica and Panama being in the same tune to reggae music. |

Well yes there are strong bonds between Panama and Jamaica. As you mentioned there were a lot of Jamaican immigrants that came for the building of the Panama Canal. A lot of them decided to stay in Panama. Antillean heritage (including Jamaican) can be found mostly in Colon. Besides Panama is a big mix of cultures. Also Jamaican and Antillean food is found everywhere in Panama.
As for reggae, as well there is a lot of influence in local music. In fact Panama started on the Spanish Reggae/Rap scene in the mid 80's, then Puerto Rico caught up, and well....they've passed us marketing wise with their Reggaeton (Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, etc.) |

I don' t think we have a "strong bond" with Jamaica. There is a Jamaican community here descendants from those who came to work at the Panama Canal, and yes many people like reggae music. But we have many people here from all the caribbean area. If we are going to talk about "strong bonds" then, we can say that we have it with dominicans since we love merengue music, and there are a lots of dominicans living in panama. Or if we talk about colombians, chinesse, jewish etc.. I would never finish.Panamenian have their own bonds !!! with everybody lov ya! |
