Without a doubt, the Dominican Republic. Costa Rica doesn't compare and is fast becoming overridden with tourist scams and "unsolved" murders. Costa Rica really has nothing of interest besides their tourist trap beaches and the little bit of rainforest which they are fast tearing down to sell to the U.S. The Dominican Republic is absolutely amazing, i was just there in October. The prices are cheap (unlike Costa Rica) and people are friendly (unlike those in Costa Rica which are rude and only "make friendships" for tourists money.) I travel to Costa Rica about twice a month (i live in Nicaragua) on business, i would avoid it at all cost if i had a choice. I honestly think our partners from Guatemala, the U.S, Vietnam, and other countries just choose Costa Rica because of the legal prostitution, i always see them "invite" some unattractive white spanish-speaking woman into their rooms at the hotel,

Costa Rica No doubt

Pd: Adyari don t know nothing about CR

What i can tell you from my expserience is...
Costa Rica is beautiful i first went their at the age of 6 and i still go!
I stayed at the bacelo last time its a 4 star hotel! i loved it! Look it up on google!
Im going to Punta Cana Dominican this sunday to the bahia prinicpe bavaro! its 5 star and my first time in dominican!!!

Mike
Definately DR.

Costa Rica is a great place to go if you are going with a bunch of friends for a surf trip... but it is still a third world country.

You can get a very nice hotel cheaper, and just have a better time in the DR.

I KNOW!! RIGHT?
Hey, not to keen on the whole scene of the D.R.,... but i thought i would suggest a great book to read, that is both entertaining and Fact Filled. It is called "The brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao." by Junot Diaz.
It gives you a lot of history about the D.R.
Have fun where ever you decide to go!.
