Easter in costa rica? |
I am traveling with 4 friends to costa rica over easter this march. We plan on not making any hostel reservations and traveling at our own pace. I have heard it may be very hard to find places to stay over easter. Is this true or should we be okay finding a place(we plan on staying in hostels or hotels). We are planning on being on the pacific coast and arenal, monteverde over this time. |

It depends on the area. Costa Rica is a very Catholic country and during March they celebrate Semana Santa (Holy Week). During that time Costa Ricans flock to the beaches for their vacation, buses don't run, shops are closed, ect. During this time a lot of tourists also go to see the festivities. |

The truth, it's going to be very hard some space in hotels on Holly Week, even though most costa ricans are catholics, they prefer spend Easter as tourists, so a lot of nationals go to the beaches and to some national parks. |

Believe me, it is going to be very hard for you to find any place to stay (specially if you are on a budget).
Specially in the Guanacaste area (north pacific) everything's already booked, so start your search right away.
Try the Puntarenas area, or Santa Teresa and Mal Pais... the last 2 not so popular around costa ricans.
Good luck! |

It will be tough tto find budget accomodations--especially at the beach; so I would try to reserve a day or two ahead of time at least. It should be relatively easy to find a place in Monteverde (unless the hotel keepers have gone to the beach), a little more difficult in Arenal La Fortuna and very difficult at all the beach areas. |

UUUUUU you may want to reserve NOW!
Seriously, everyone and there dog is on vacation at that time, and Costa Ricans are not staying at 3-5 star accomodations, they are booking budget same as you. Hostels will have more tourists, but spring break is spring break and they will be busy too. Monteverde is primarily tourism so it is correct to say that you will find accommodations easiest there. If you already know your itinerary I would book now and save the hassle of showing up and having no place to sleep.
heres a good source of info for Monteverde and Arenal/La Fortuna,so you can get an idea of what to expect.
