Ecuadorian Living/Jobs?
When my husband and I move to Ecuador next year, I will be looking for a job. I have a Bachelors degree and was thinking of teaching English and Japanese (but my degree is not in teaching). I am fluent in Spanish. Any ideas? Is it hard to find employment for US citizens there? Our living arrangements are taken care of and the residency status will be taken care of? Any help will be appreciated. Oh, and if anyone knows, how many Japanese people live there in Quito or Cuenca?
Peru has a sizable Japanese population, but I don't remember ever seeing a Japanese person in Ecuador. There are a fair number of English schools in Quito, and probably Cuenca, so you could probably get a job there. If you don't have a degree in English or a TESL certificate, it will be very difficult to get a job at a normal school (elementary or high school).

Your best bet is to teach English everything else forget it....My wife and I will be moving there also in a couple of years, My wife is Ecuadorian and I am Canadian/Dutch. The only other option would be to do something in tourism......They frequently look for English speaking guides......Mat

If you're looking for a Japanese population, you would have much better luck in Peru.
Anyways, if you're thinking of teaching English, you should try to get TESL certified.
