Ecuadorian calls me Mery?

I'm visiting my best friend and a ton of his family in california. they're all ecuadorian. I know that they always call his sister (whose name is Isabel) Mery, they also call most of the women in the family that. I just assumed it was like a term of affection.
The other day though I went to an amusement park with two of his cousins and his brother. His cousin is like his best friend. So he was trying to get my attention and he called me Mery. Does this mean he sort of considers me family now? Or what?
Also, I heard a sister call her brother Nenu or Neno. Is this like Mery for guys or just a family thing?

I'm is like wird. But the will call you by your name, aly, I know spanish and Mery doesn't mean anything. Is really wird, but don't worry, They'll call you aly and if not, yep, It may be something in their family, and you may be very important for them. Is just a Family thing, don't worry!

Hope I help and good luck!!

What they are saying is mira and it means look (or listen to me) , so a young child (or adult) will say MIRA !! MIRA !! (LOOK!! LOOK!!) and probably tugging at your arm..You are inadvertently assuming they are calling you that....... The same question came to mind when I was in Ecuador ........Ren

I am ecuatorian, i think how they call you is their own way, because it´s the first time i heard that. It´s normal when you belong to the family, the family call you like Rosita (...ita for woman,....ito for man, like kids). but your name is Rosa. It´s a kind of affection.
Anyway in the way they call you don´t mean nothing bad. Sure they love you!

Mery is a semi-popular name in the Andean countries such as Peru and Ecuador. While I'm not sure of the exact meaning, I do know it is a compliment. My ex fiance's name is Mery, and she is very beautiful :-)
