You might find the route of flowers interesting. Atco and Juayua both have festivals with plenty of music and food.open markets it is a lot of fun.

The route of peace will take you to Perquin where there is a museum with information about the civil war. several other towns have some history you might find interesting.

If you visit the ruins at joya de ceren you might also go to san andres as the ruins are not large but do give you a glimpse into years past.
If you visit El Tazumal be sure to stop by casa blanca which has some ruins and also a museum that will explain how indigo is made. If you bring a 100% cotton t shirt or fabric you can actually learn how the process works and have a souvenir you made your self.
If you go to Suchitoto take aboatride in the lake.
Also Ask at the Culture center to direct you to the old lady that rolls cigar. Was interesting to learn how she made them.
For the beach for the day playa Atami is a good choice.
Stay near el tunco a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it . http://www.rocasunzal.com.
San Salvador has some good museums but is a large, noisy city. It does have a lot of mall so plenty of shopping
I try to stay as far away from there as I can.
My second home is Santa Ana it has a much smaller town vibe.
Try as much food as you can. Elote, pupusas are good choices.Plenty of new things try.
For parks go to Cerro Verde, Parque impossible. termos del rio Cerro el pintal, cerro montecristo.
Hope you enjoy your trip

I would say you need to visit the beach. Costa del Sol is a must. Other places of interest are ofcourse the capital city San Salvador. Suchitoto, Apaneca, Izalco. The Ruins of Tazumal or Joya de Ceren. Take the route along the coast, id say around the port of Libertad headed towards guatemala but either way its nice. Other bodies of water of interest that you should visit are Lake Ilopango the largest lake in El Salvador and also the Cuatepeque lake which is a lake inside a volcano crater its beautiful. Hope this helps. |
