El Salvador achieved independence from Spain's Monarchy in 1821 and from the Central American Federation in 1839.

It has been a Democratic Republic since 15 September 1821.

It's government has Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches .

El Salvador has had a pretty messed up past, government wise. Most of the last 100 years they have been ruled by a series of military dictators, many of them supported by the US.
They had a horrible civil war that lasted 12 years starting in 1979.

The country now has a democratically elected government, but suffers from chronic institutional corruption and severe crime problems with gangs.

To learn more go to wikipedia and type in El Salvador.

Good research.
