Simon Bolivar. Google him. Bolivia is named after him.
Other than that, Bolivia doesn't really have anybody who is/was famous on the world stage. Sorry! |

With regard to Simon Bolivar, unfortunately, even though he liberated the country and the country is named after him, he was born in what is now Venezuela and not in Bolivia (which was then called Upper Peru).
Famous Bolivians who lived in the U.S. include:
Jaime Escalante - professor and teacher of mathematics who gained renown and distinction for his work at Garfield High School in Los Angeles, Calif., in teaching poor minority students calculus. His story was the basis for the 1986 movie "Stand and Deliver".
Simón Iturri Patiño - in his day, he was one of the wealthiest men in the world -- a "Bill Gates" of his time. By 1924 he owned fifty percent of the national production and controlled the European refining of Bolivian tin. He lived, for a time, in New York City.
Jaime Laredo - violinist and conductor. He is currently the conductor and music director of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra,
Marina Núñez del Prado - one of the most widely acclaimed sculptors of Latin America. Between 1940-48 she worked and organized exhibitions of her work in the United States while on a scholarship. |
