Strangely enough (and I agree with some of the answers here) many of my friends hike with sandals and they prefer the (not cheap) Ecco Yucatan Sandal and/or the Teva sandals both were developed by river runners to provide proper foot support without having to put up with water logged feet which regular hiking boots do.
They have become increasing popular among hikers on mountain trails and around town. They say it is perfect when hiking in wet and rough areas, crossing streams etc etc.

NOT SANDALS! RAIN BOOTS! I went and everything is SO muddy. You will not want sandals. If you don't get boots, get waterproof seekers. |

some good old $2 flip flops from old navy...ARE YOU KIDDING...wear some shoes or hiking boots...basic sneakers would work but get something with traction... |

Don't wear sandals to hike. Wear running shoes or hiking boots - sandals are not as comfortable, can slip off, and can expose your feet to poisonous plants !! |

Hey I would recommend get or buy some shoes Keen brand, or Teva, or Earth all this brand are made for hiking or do outside activities. I have Teva, and Keen they are amazing, and waterproof. Earth little price, but looks another good shoes.
If you are in USA I would recommend this website www.6pm.com, they have this brand shoes, for amazing prices usually in other stores they are little bit price!!
Good luck and have fun!!! |

I wound not recommend any brand because you should not wear sandals to hike in Costa Rica. Reasons: snakes, mosquitos, scorpios, etc. In one word: safety. Good luck! |

If you insist on sandals, go with Keen (1st choice) or Teva (2nd choice). Due to the snakes & the mud issues, I would highly recommend using some good hiking boots instead. |

In Costa Rica and Panama I have seen many tourists carrying their sandals and coming home barefoot after a day out in the wild. The dirt and sand gets in there and sands the skin right off your feet. There are some serious thorny palms as well as the leaf cutter ants. |
