Galapagos Islands? |
tomorrow we are traveling to quito, ecuador, then on sunday to the galapagos for a 7 day cruise. we are going to be outside a lot and were wondering how tan or sunburnt are we going to get? like even if we wear SPF 50, will it come off and we get tan atleast a little bit? because i really want to get some sun, and i know there will be alot of it cuz we'll be right on the equator, but has anyone experienced this? |

You will be in the sun a lot. Use a strong sunscreen. If you are going to snorkel or swim off the boat, use a waterproof one. Remember tanning is not good for you overall skin health. Use a high level of SPF since you will be in the sun for many days straight. Even with a high level of protection you will still probably have picked up enough sun to look tan. Of course it all depends on your skin. Play it safe though. You would rather not be burnt while trying to enjoy Galapagos activities. Take extra sunscreen too. Once you are on the boat it'll be tough to restock!
Enjoy your trip. It is the greatest. |

First of all, the Ecuador and the Galapagos are amazing!!! It will be the trip of your life! But to answer your question, Quito is at a high elevation so it is only about 80 degrees at the hottest, and it may be around there being that it is Summer in South America right now. Once you leave the Andes and get down to sea level (where the Galapagos is) it is very hot during the summer. It is usually over 95 degrees, and the sun is direct, so you will want a LOT of sunscreen. (It also depends on if you are white or latino etc...). There also isn't a ton of shade on the Galapagos islands coast, so be ready for that. Hope I could help! Have fun! |

OK it depends on your type fo skin. Ecuaro is the best aplce to get a tan. I went to a 7 day cruise by the caribbean laid bny the pool all day, and didnt get a tan...NOTHING at all! I was sooo mad! but I went to The beach in Ecuador, used sunscree, sat for 2 hours under an umbrella, and I got sunburned!!! My skin picks equatorial rays pretty well, also I had a lot of carrots before going (it helps you get a golden tan, not a black tan) I dont get as tanned in CA (I live in Southern CA) so, I would recommend wearing a sun tan with some SPF to protect yourself... and dont go crazy, a couple of hours a day is enough... also get in the water a lot... helps to get a sun tan without heat exhaustion |

lol it's not like its 300 degrees. its pretty much like Southern California. Don't worry about it. |

It does depend on your skin...are you fair skin, dark, olive????
If you wear 15 SPF you'll be fine and will get maybe a hue redder/darker. |
