go to the highlands...very inexpensive....i stayed at a very nice hotel and was only changed 18 dollars a night......great bargain.....the food is great, people are very friendly.....climate is great,.....some great outdoor markets....especially if you go to the chichi area....as far as Guatemala City...if not for the airport...i would never go there.....too many people, traffice bad, much crime,.....people rude......good luck on your trip....

Stay in Antigua and do day trips to Panajachel and Chichicastenago. Then take a couple of days and go to Tikal.
All of which is very afordable. You can even book the Tikal trip in Antigua.

Go to Antigua beaufitul make sure you go to a place call Santo Domingo and eat the buffect and tour around the place.
