Believe me it was sooooo horrible. I am in Guatemala!

News are telling that there are damages in some towns but we don't know yet exactly what the damage is.

Also the specialized institution concerning earthquakes is saying that if the center of the earthquake was more near to the ground, the would have been a tsunami.

Various buildings were left by instructions of this institution as still having little tremors.

Enough to scare and makes you run. Think about this: If you were seated on a chair, you would feel like somebody with average strength is rocking your seat from behind...

Casual Traveler
It's very strong, but there are earthquakes off the coast of Guatemala City almost weekly. Most are in the 3.5 - 5.5 range, but they happen very frequently.

Well I'm from Texas and when I was twelve years old we moved to California for year in 1987 and lucky us there was an earthquake (5.8) in Whittier CA and we lived in Montclair which is about 28 miles away. It didn't do much damage in Montclair except very scary and exciting at the same time for me. I was in school at the time and everyone started running towards a field. It was early morning before school-I was like Why is everybody running? I didn't know what was going on until my friend stopped me and told me it's an earthquake-do you feel it? And I finally did-was very strange feeling. Anyway there was quite a bit of damage and deaths in Whittier. Here is a website with a briefing of the earthquake. There was quite a few aftershocks for the rest of the year that I was there!!

My mom was outside when it happen and she saw the sidewalks literaly rolling up and down. oooooooooooh scary so I can only imagine how scary a 6.8 would be.

Strong 6.0-6.9 Can be destructive in areas up to about 100 miles across in populated areas.

A 6.8 earthquake can vary in devastation from none at all to extremely devastating depending on it's location. If it's epicenter is in the middle of a densely populated area, it can be extremely devastating.

Because the earthquake happened off shore, there might be some or even no damage due to it, but there is a chance of a tsunami occurring.

People are reporting feeling it in Mexico City, 690 miles away, but it's still early.

Below you'll find info for this particular earthquake. Because it just happened 42 minutes ago, there is little info on it. As the day goes on, more information will be added to the web site.

The second link will give you historical date. You'll be able to see that there were some 8 and even 9 pointers that did not have any casualties, and some 5 pointers that had many casualties.
