We went from Lima to Arequipa via Ica and I didn't notice anything scary about the journey at all. Everyone travels by bus in Peru everyday. Just take lots of water (I remember getting really dehydrated and almost licking the condensation off the window out of desparation, might have been the altitude) and loo roll too. |

You won't die but you may wish you were dead after going from Lima to Arequipa by bus. Peru has luxury double decker bus lines that cater to tourists like Cruz del Sur and they always have 2 drivers to share the driving. Definitely pay extra for a VIP ticket in the lower deck if you can for more space, better seats and less people. Bring those foamy ear plugs. Sometimes they play music too loud or show a horrible evangelical movie and they'll help you get a little sleep. |

bus journeys through the mountains in Peru scare the hell out of me but not once did I have even a scare of anything bad.
The bus driver have all be driving the roads for years and know what they can and can't do. Remember they are taking thier own lives as well as those of the passengers.
I was in Peru for about two months, took loads of bus jouneys and didn't hear anything about crashes (in fact heard about bad thing in the UK ather than Peru. |

Cheer up man! I would worry more about altitude sickness if I were you than bus accidents. As someone already mentioned , take a good bus company even if it means paying more, and you' ll be all right! Enjoy your trip :) |

Lima - Arequipa is a long and also a very ajnoyable journey. Take plenty of water and some food with you. Choose a very reputable bus company like Ormeño. Cruz del Sur or Civa, and choose a bus with restrooms.
Good luck! |

mmmmmm kinda tricky question, you are aware that you can die anywhere at any given time, aren't you? chances are higher traveling by bus in Peru because of lot of informal bus companies here; I have 2 advices: take a reputable trusted bus company and you will be just fine.
2: Take a plane!!!!! why bother taking a 12 hour bus trip when you can take an 1 hour flight to Arequipa at almost the same cost??? |
