i was actually born in quito, equador, but my family moved out when i was about 4, i dont recall much, but through out the years i would go back every 5 or 6 years to visit relatives. so when i go i feel like a tourist, even though i speak english,i go to places and people from there ask, where are you from?? and i have to say, 'here, i was born here' and they dont believe me. its an odd feeling i dont even know if its good or bad.
my favorite place, actually there are two that ive only been once. is this place called, Papajacta, its practically these swimming pools with warm water, created by the volcanoes around. its so beautiful because its in the middle of nowhere in this luxury hotel which for american's isnt that much. then my second spot is Mindo. i was there two years ago since my sister got married and had her wedding there. we went on this trip to this city, actually this little town. i loved since it had to cool 'attractions'. 1. it had a butterfly farm, you paid $2 to get in and see these butterfulies all around and at a certain time of the day they all began to fly aroudn you for 10 minutes. it was wierd! you had all these huge butterflies landing on your shoulder, your hand, your back if you stood still. it was sooo much fun. 2. there was this so called, 'rafting' event. where instead of usinmg rafts they had big plastic donuts all tied up in a circle of 5 and one in the middle. you went in groups of 5 or 8 people with one guide. when i went there it was getting late and the sun was going down so we were the last ones to go, me, my dad, and my bf along with 3 guides (it was two kids, yes they were actual 'guides'!! and one 18 year old). it was a long long long ride, like 20 minute ride and you had to hold on tight to the ropes and NOT dare put your feet on the hole of the donuts or else you get badly hurt by the rocks. it was so much fun! in the middle of the ride it was dark, we rafting in the pitch dark, only the reflection of the moon guided the rough currents. if it wasnt late, i would have done it again, it only costed like $4 dollars per ride.
my favorite food, is the 'ceviche di camaron' sooo good! i love that. i know how to make it, once in a while i prepare when i have time. and my favorite juice is the one of 'maracuya' and the 'mora' one. it sooo good!
about going back, ill probably heading back this coming november for my grandma's 100 years! itll be a big party, along wiht my mom's 9 brothers and sisters. big family, tons of cousins. |

I was in Quito for 90 days in 1998. It was so much fun. Nightlife was great. I would go back if I had a reason. I also spent six months in the rain forest. It was so beautiful. |

I was there for a couple of weeks. I think the equator (imaginary line that divides northern and southern hemispheres of Earth) was a pretty cool place to visit.
So many places to see out there...I may go back someday if there`s something special going on... |

I volunteered in a small town called Bahia de Caraquez on the Ecuadorian coast last summer. I was there for three months and had an amazing time. There was a tiny little surfing village called Canoa just up the road from us (well it involved some water travel, then road) which was a great get away from the well beaten tourist trail and a great spot to surf and chill out and party of course, more locals than most places. I had a blog, might bore you though, but if you wanted to get a feel for day to day life in Ecuador, any other questions contact me through the blog.........buena suerte |

I have lived in Ecuador for the majority of my young adult life. Quito is my favorite place in ecuador as it's central and easty to get to anywhere in the country. Favorite dish is kind of hard as Ecuador has many regions (highlands, coast and the Amazon) Each of these have a very typical dish, in the highlands its usually some fatty meat as it can get really cold at night, i would suggest a dish called FRITADA which is pork meat (fried in copper pots) with potato cakes and avocados. in the Coast you have to each a CEVICHE usually made of shrimp cooked in lemon juice. i would go and try every thing. But to make sure to drink bottled water and wash all the fruits. It's a defenitly go back situation for me. if you really want to get into the depths of ecuador culture 3 weeks is fine. |
