Has anyone been to Peru? What are your thoughts about it? Anything will be highly appreciated.?

I like the people in Peru. As someone on this site said, they are very friendly.
Scenery is fantastic! If you love mountains as I do, you will love the train ride from Cusco to Machu Picchu. If you are young and adventurous, I would recommend taking the Inca trail to Macchu Picchu, which is worth seeing. We took a bus from the base of Machu Picchu which took us somewhere midway and climbed the rest of the way. The view at the top is worth the climb!
Cusco is an interesting and lovely town, very touristy. Lima is nice in its own way but traffic is chaotic. Miraflores in Lima is a good place to shop for souvenirs etc. Lake Titicaca is unique. It has manmade islands of tortora reeds which grow abundantly on the lake. These islands are made of layers upon layers of those reeds. The traditional homes and traditional boats there are also made of these reeds.
The Valle de Sagrado (Sacred Valley) , which you can travel to, a route you can take to see many Historical places is interesting.
We visited Ollantaytambo, where we went into a traditional Inca home. Many interesting places can be accessed from Cusco where one can take tours. Tours are worth taking because the guide can tell you a lot about the places you see. I would love to visit Peru again. It's a wonderful place.

Go see machupichu while you are there.
I plan on moving there when i retire.

Yes,I was in Peru for 101 days,over-stayed my 90 day visa :)
The people are friendly,lots to see and do too. Depends on what time of the year you go as to where to go,but,you won`t be disappointed.The Andes Mountains,the Pacific Ocean,tons of history and museums and tours. I`d try to learn some basic Espanol also. Your money will go a long way if you pay attention.Lima is fast-paced,the villages in the Sierras are beautiful and you have desert areas too.Machu Piccu,the Nazca lines,Arequippa,Lima,...knock yourself out !

Been to Cusco and surrounding areas three times and what I noticed was the warmth and friendliness of the people, the culture is amazing and the scenery is breathtaking. on the down side the poverty is so obvious, but all in all its one of the most beautiful places on earth, if you are going you wont regret it.

I married a Peruvian woman four years ago and have been to Lima four times, the first trip was six weeks, the next two for two months and last winter ( their summer) for four months. I am back to sell everything and will move to Lima permanently before gas reaches $5 a gallon and we throw bombs at someone else.......

I went to one of the poorest areas in Peru for missionary work, and It was still great ! we had a 12 hour layover in lima, and it was gorgeous. i had soo much fun! its great!

I was just in Peru (and other parts of South America) last Fall. I had a great time all around, but I have to say that Lima and Cuzco were not my favorite cities. People tend to get really offended when I say that, but let me make it clear that I loved Peru itself, but just not those cities. Lima was just huge and chaotic and scary to me. Cuzco seems to have lost a lot of its authenticity because it is so overrun by tourists. It's impossible to walk down the street without being hassled by a hundred people trying to get you to eat at their restaurant, buy their goods, etc. I totally understand that their economy depends upon tourism, but that's not the type of traveling that I enjoy. I think that the small towns in the Sacred Valley outside of Cuzco were amazing! Just traveling 30 minutes away from Cuzco made such a difference! The people were friendly and welcoming, the food was lovely, and there is a lot of beautiful artisan work to look at. Machu Picchu was well worth it, although a bit expensive for a backpacker's budget! I would suggest staying overnight in Aguas Calientes and taking the earliest bus up the mountain to the ruins (at 5:30, I think). It's really magical being the first group up there with the sun just barely coming up! One of my other favorite cities in Peru was Arequipa. It was so laid back and had great stuff to do. The Colca Canyon is terrific for hiking and rafting and if you're lucky you can see a Condor. Have a wonderful trip!

I've been to Lima and to say the truth I didn't like it that much.... For a few days to go around and get to know the city is fine, but not for a long trip... In Lima I liked Larcomar a lot.. And I have heard Macchu Picchu is amazing, hope sometime I can go there too... good luck and have a nice trip!
