hi, peru is a great place. you just have to be smart. lima is like any other big city as in there is crime there so be smart and use usual precautions. Here{s a trick i used when i flew in to lima. outside the airport there are official cabs waiting to take you to your hotel. they are very pushy and i didn{t feel so safe using the official airport taxis they tried overcharging and switching hotels on me. so I just by pass them and walked 15 feet to the next curb where onofficial taxis were dropping of people who were flying out. The taxis we choose was hugging his clients goodbye and wishing them a good trip. 1. we new he delivered his clients safetly. 2. he charged 1/3 the price. just think and peru is very easy to travel in. I would check out Pisaq ruins if your on the way to Machu picchu. They are 40min away from cuzco by bus for 60cents. stay at the artisan hotel there its around 6 dollars a night and nice. the owner also owns Ideas restaruant. he know the whole area and newly descovered inca trails. if you go to machu picchu you have to take the train. theres no other way. if you go to Pisaq then continue by bus through the Sacred valley and jump on the train at the end. Its $40 from there as opposed to $140 from cuzco.

I lived in Peru for two years, and I loved it. There's lots of things to do there - it just depends on what you like. Macchu Picchu and Cuzco are enormously popular, of course, and most tourists make sure they see them. The jungle is also really beautiful, as is Lake Titicaca.

I like Lima, too, contrary to other answers. Parts of it are not so pretty, and if you go in May-August, you won't like the weather, since it's winter there - cloudy and gray almost every day.

But there are parts of Lima that are really pretty - most tourists go to the district of Miraflores, or go to Larcomar, a shopping/dining center right on the shore. Downtown is also pretty neat - you can see the presidential palace, the national cathedral, and the catacombs.

I don´t, but I have some friends that went there 2 months ago. They say that Lima is ugly, sad and grey, but Cuzco, Nazca and Macchu Picchu are very beautiful and exciting.

no, i 've never been to there.

yes, I was there a couple years ago. You must check out Machu Picchu. If you do nothing else...go there! It will blow you away. I recommend the hike there instead of the train. It is not a super easy hike, but it is well worth the experience.
