This is such a great opportunity good for you. I love Buenos Aires. My family is from there and I lived and studied there for 4.5 months in 2004. Transportation is no problem there are subways(subterraneos), trains, remises, taxis and buses. Just be careful with cabs if they know you aren't sure of where you are they will drive you in circles or charge you more than the fare should be. If you are going a far distance negotiate the price of the ride before you get in. That works out the best usually or call for a radio taxi those are the safest.
The food is amazing and will probably seem pretty affordable to you in most locations since the exchange rate is about 3 to 1. There is a ton of entertainment and the city never sleeps so you will have a blast. People usually don't start heading to the clubs(boliches) until around 12-1 and they close anywhere from 5-7am. There are entire streets dedicated to just theaters, shopping or museums etc. Make sure you make it to the ferias on the weekends-great deals and tons of great finds. You could even take tango lessons while you are there. As for apartments i found a great site where you can rent apartments in great neighborhoods for surprisingly cheap considering the barrios they are in. check out this site. I hope I have helped you some.
buena suerte y cuidate

It is an amazing city. It is very classy, like a cross between Paris and Madrid.

The people who were supposed to be arrogant were very polite and helpful. They are a little cold until you speak Spanish and they they warm right up and want to help you.

I had the best steak dinner I've ever had there, last April and it was only $20 for a filet and a bottle of Malbec, vino tinto.

There are a lot of Italian restaurants there and you can get great Pizza and all the other Italian dishes.

On Sundays there are street fairs and festivals and art shows and tango shows all for the price of just showing up.

I envy you. it is one of my favorite places to go. You will have a great time.

Buenos Aires... beautiful, elegant and trendy city. Very friendly people. Be prepared to out at night, everynight. Party starts at 1.00am and ends at 8.00am. Try to head to Palermo soho area with cool shops and trendy food joints. Clubs are located around there too and in costanegra area.
This is a huge city with plenty to do.....check out yahoo travel for places to visit!
I went last summer and I really enjoyed my stay, great people, great food.......muy BUENO!

PS: i would stay in an appartment .. close to the subte stations...
