Well, I am Brazilian and I live in Rio de Janeiro, I love the carnival party, All the years I will see the parades is an unequaled show, it is the largest operates popular of the world, several levels of Schools of Sambas exist the main ones (10) they parade Sunday the night and second fair the night, the entrances for that parades are expensive, but we can see other Schools of Samba parade at the Carnival parade ground without paying anything. they are + / - 50 Schools of Samba parading. The main Schools parade with 3000 components each School, the one of the 2nd division with about 1700 components each School. The one of the 3rd division parade with about 1200 components each school. They choose a theme and they compose a samba telling the history and they develop the fantasies and the allegories accordingly for the parade the theme of the Samba.
Haul of that exist the carnival dances , the most sophisticated and expensive is it of the hotel Copacabana Palace, Dance them of the Escala are very frequented by tourists. The most expected is the gay dance the last dance of the carnival. They are more people outside of the alone dance to see the participants of the dances and their fantasies, a red rug is put where the gays parade before entering. It is very entertaining.
It also exists the dances of Street the most popular and the one of the (Cordão do Bola Preta) it is a band that is followed by people dressed with fantasies white with black balls and him leaves the streets on Saturday of carnival the 10 AM.
The bands of the south area of very entertaining healthy Rio, because the people dance in the street during hours and it is free, it is alone to have fun.

If you enjoy the Marti Gra atmosphere go but if not avoid it. I'm not into big crowds of loudness. I would suggest going for a vacation there any other time.
