Jose!

i live in costa rica and i think is a beautiful country with lot of nature and i like the sea ( is warm water ) not like in the states plus u have lot of fun anywhere u go. dont go to san Jose is a dangerous place for tourist u can go atleast one day and dont go out at night.
go to Monteverde ( peaceful place ) where u can see the nature or u can have a lot of adventure like i did with my family we went there and we had horseback riding, a water slide super big, zip line, spa, and lot more.Tortuguero is a nice place we went to a super hotel as in Monteverde and had lot of fun time we had the chance to see a turtle to lay eggs. im 15 years old and i had been in lot of places if u find a place of ur interest i can help u saying what i think about that place if it is cheap, good place to stay, safe, etc.
or u can contact a agency.
my mail is nitos91@hotmail.com
and if i dont know then i can ask my dads, my mom was a tour guide and she was one of the best on the company she worked but she wanted to make a travel agency alone, that is cheaper and the costumers would buy what they wanted to do, and what they like the best at the best price u can find, they have a travel agency and i think we can help u out if u want to check out our page is:
http://www.travelinparadisecr.com/
some travel agency´s can have lower prices but u have to compare the hotels, the car, the tours, the food, etc.
i mean i think u wont go to costa rica to go with a backpack and thats it, beacause that is so dangerous and more over here that u dont have well marked the avenues or streets.
good luck and have fun!!!!!!! |

Nice place, lots of national parks with all kind of wildlife (Manuel Antonio, Carara), you will see a lot of tropical nature. And of course cosmopolitan beach resorts for surfing (Jacó) or swimming (Montezuma on Nicoya Peninsula).
However,
- It is less safe than you may think. I got robbed at a gunpoint on a tourist trail in a forest outside Orosà in Central Valley last December. Yes, I was a "gringo" and I was alone at that moment, but it was around 10 am and the route was recommended by the local hotel. So, think twice before going to a remote place - it is less safe than it seems!
- Traveling around is less convenient than in other countries, because there are much fewer buses (than, e.g., in Guatemala). For example, there are only four buses a day (each direction) between Puntarenas and Jacó, both of which are relatively popular resorts. You should enquire about schedules in advance and plan your trip if you do not want to get stuck at a wrong place.
Otherwise, if you take precautions and think about your next move, you will enjoy the place. Prices are low and the nature is truly marvellous. And people are as friendly as in other LatAm countries. !Pura vida! |

Been trhere in 1987, and liked San Jose, the capital, but hardly any English spoken there at that time, and I dont speak much Spanish, so I went to the Caribbean side where I heard the blacks spoke English. Interesting place, Lemon, but soooooo hot. Lots of pretty girls in the capital, but hard to meet them and talk with them...not much night life, compared with Mexico, but nice little city....went to the Pacific Coast by bus (so long and slow) and travelled to Tamarindo and Quepos, and found a very nice beach at Manual Antonio Beach...then there were only 4 hotels: $6; $15, $35, and $140 per night. I took the hut on the beach for $6 .... I just wish I had a better understand of Spanish and had bought real estate then! |

Travel in Paradise
|
Costa Rica, a true paradise to nature-lovers, offers many environments to enjoy. The lush rainforests, the volcanoes, the rivers, the mountains, the beautiful beaches... all witness an unmatched blend of rich biodiversity and friendly culture.
This peaceful paradise, proud of its prosperous democracy, also caters to those who seek a way to boost their adrenaline with activities as white water rafting, canyoning, surfing and swinging from tree to tree. |

I lived there and I really liked it at first. It's a gorgeous country and the people are basically nice. However, as an American, as time wore on I came to learn that the Costa Ricans are very resentful and often rude toward Americans. They have a negative opinion of us. Overall, it's a great country, but I would never want to live there long-term again. Vacation is plenty. |
