Guatemala is the largest and most populated country of Central America. Is located south of Mexico, and its bordered on the north and west to Mexico, in the northeast to Belize and in the east by Honduras and El Salvador. It has both coasts in the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean.
Indepence day (from Spain): September 15th 1821.
You can find more information in this website.. the information is very good. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guatemala

Regarding guatemalan food, if you have to cook it for fellow students, I recommend the following recipes:
1) Tostadas: its fried corn tortillas and you put on top either guacamole, black beans (in the US they sell Del Monte refried beans) or salsa (tomate sauce). Its very easy to do and its a food easy to digest too...
2) Choco-bananos: this are chocolate covered bananas. First you have to peel the bananas and put a wood stick on them and put them in a freezer for a night or until frozen. Afterwards melt special chocolate that gets hard when in a cold surface... and cover the bananas with the chocolate and put them back on the freezer... and thats it! You can also put nuts or rice crispies on the chocolate for better taste.
If you need more elaborate foods please ask me.

Guatemala! I love Guatemala. It's pretty poor. And the food isn't very good. The places I would suggest are: Lankin, Atitlan, Monterico, and of course Tikal. It's a really great place. Don't go alone.
