I thought the people of Uruguay were really lovely for the most part, but it wasn't my fav country in SA. Montevideo was my least fav city there (it's kinda bleak), but I did really love the Museo Torres Garcia (he's one of my fav painters) & the Ciudad Vieja area. I spent 2 days there & was like bored out of my skull by the afternoon of the 1st day.

I adored Colonia, though. It's a very charming, historical, romantic little town. I had a blast in Punta del Este (beach resort town kinda like Monte Carlo of South America) & really had fun at the estancia.

The absolute best part of my stay was being invited to dinner by some ppl in Colonia & having them teach me about coca de mate (tea everybody drinks) and the whole ritual.

Have fun!!!

Uruguay is a small but great country. The people are friendly. Go to: Punta del Este (resort town), Colonia (near Buenos Aires) a colonial town, rustic and charming. Go visit a ranch in the country-an estancia). In the capital, Montevideo, stay near the rambla (beach area) but also visit if you can the Ciudad Vieja and the Puerto. Charming. Also take in a tango show and a flamenco show. Have fun!
