You would be right around the time when the "veranillo de San Juan" or St. John's little summer comes in. It is a time around the end of June and beginning of July when we get around 10 days of dry season conditions. In any event, if you are staying at a beach hotel, it will be much drier than in the Central Valley. You can enjoy warm and sunny mornings at the beach or pool-side. The rain will come in at around 1 pm. You can go in, shower, eat lunch, take care of honeymoon business after lunch, and enjoy a great, warm and very tropical evening. Look, I went with my wife on our honeymoon at the end of October. it's the worst month in Costa Rica for rain. But it only rained one night. The rest of the time was warm, sunny and so damn beautiful that we even paid for an extra day. We are going back in a few days. Oh! We have stayed at the Barcelo Tambor Beach and Doubletree by Hilton in Puntarenas. Go to the Barcelo Hotel, whether in Tambor or in Langosta Beach. You will be glad you spent the money and the memories will hopefully last a lifetime. TicosLand wishes you a wonderful wedding and a great marriage.

It will be fun any time of year!! You should go to Jaco if you are younger. There's a preserve where you can see wildlife. Here's a link about Jaco:

June is actually a great month to travel to Costa Rica! Since it's the low travel season most hotels have are 20%-40% cheaper than during the high season. It is a bit rainy, but not as bad as September or October. And it won't slow you down at all. I personally love the thunder storms on the Pacific Coast, they're just incredible.

The thing with the rainy season is that it's normally very warm and sunny in the morning, with rain in the afternoon/evening, and usually clear nights.

Another thing that is interesting is that normally when it's raining on the west coast, it's sunny on the east coast, and viceversa... Since you're coming in the low season you could even play it by ear because the hotels always have occupancy. Choose a few possible hotels on the west coast and others on the east coast, and just check the forecast a few days before arriving and make your reservation then. Worst case scenario is that you'll have to change your plans when you get here, but everything is less than a day's travel by car and the ride is beautiful.

If you're planning on visiting the Poas or Irazu volcano, go early in the morning because even if it doesn't rain, it gets cloudy or foggy in the afternoon and you won't be able to see the craters.

For the beaches I would recomend:
Tortuguero, Manzanillo or Cahuita on the Caribean coast.
Punta Leona, Dominical, Manuel Antonio or one of Guanacaste's beaches for the Pacific coast. Guanacaste also has some famouse caves and caverns and the beautiful Rio Celeste river.

For the mountains I definetly recomend the Monte Campana Hotel in the mountains of Heredia, and Hotel Los Lagos or Hotel Tabacon near the Arenal Volcano (a must see!). Also if you want to see tons of nature go to Monte Verde or the Osa Peninsula.

I was in Costa Rica during that time and even in the rainy season, there tends to be just one giant downpour either in the morning or at night, and the rest of the day is clear.

I have both visited and lived in Costa Rica during June where the weather has been both great or rainy for a week straight. With only a hundred miles separating the Pacific Ocean from the Caribbean Sea/Atlantic Ocean ... tropical weather systems on both sides can greatly affect the weather during your stay - no matter what time of year.

October is the height of the 'green season'.

In June it will most likely rain daily but still offer plenty of sunshine - depending on where you end-up for your honeymoon.

June is considered part of the rainy season.
However, the real rainy season is considered from September - October, maybe mid November.
Still during rainy season you can enjoy sunny mornings and afternoon showers, usually starting around 1 o clock.

I was in Manual Antonio from June 9-14 and San Jose from June 14-23. The rain didn't slow us down at all. It was pretty predictable. Every afternoon between 4 and 7pm (in Manual Antonio - the rain in San Jose was so wimpy I wouldn't even call it rain). All our activities started pretty early in the morning and by the time the rain came we were already back in the hotel. I loved sitting on our huge balcony and watching the storm come in off the ocean. When we went out later in the evening and got caught in it, it wasn't a cold ugly rain. It was a warm tropical rain, so it wasn't uncomfortable. It never really lasted long either. We spent time after dark in the pool and went to Quepos one evening. We also went out to eat each night (walking to the restaurant) and I can't even remember the rain at that point - so it must not have been bad.

The place where we stayed was so great. It's called Costa Verde II and would be perfect for a honeymoon.
