Hola, que tal, como estas?
It is not easy to get a tourist visa in Guatemala but with your help I'm sure visitor will be able to make it. You need to give that person as much of your support as you can. Yes, a letter of invitation is a good start. In your letter, make sure you offer in no uncertain terms to provide all economic support for this individual during their stay. The Consulate will ask how much money the person is taking with them, want to see bank account statement(s), property deed(s)/titles, proof of a business or a letter of employment confirmation on the part of the Guatemalan's Guatemalan employer, evidence of family members for which one would return to Guatemala, etc.
Make sure your visitor follows all the instructions, does everything right and is not late or misses an appointment at the US Consulate. Now, a Guatemalan has to purchase a special phone card just to call the embassy and make an appointment.
So...make sure they have proof of sufficient traveling money, a sizable bank account, a good job and employer, property/investments in Guatemala, family members remaining in Guatemala, etc
