Does your family understand Condos or Apartment living with roommates or flatmates? Try explaining to them that dorm life is pretty much like that. Only with college students as the tenants, and No rent owed, no water and electric, or garbage bills to pay, because the tuition's cover the cost of all those things. Anything outside of those things (or at least most anything outside of those things) the students pay for, or cover the costs.

Probably either because people there can't afford to live in dorms, or there just aren't enough kids in the school to live in the dorms.
