How do I get a visa/permission to stay in Honduras longer than 90 days?

I am a U.S. Citizen and my husband is from Honduras. We want to go back with our two children (American citizens) but I want to stay longer than the 90 visa they have to offer for the American tourists. I have already tried to call the embassies for Honduras but I can't reach anyone. Please help. I want to stay at least a year.

I am a US citizen living in Honduras and here is what I have found.
According to immigration laws you must leave the country for at least 72 hours every 90 days. Also according to law, you must go somewhere besides Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. That is not to say some people don't spend a little money under the table but it depends entirely on the mood of the immigration officer you are dealing with at the time. It takes more time than 90 days to process, but one thing you could do as soon as you get here is apply for residency "Venculo Matrimonio" since your husband is Honduran. This is residency, not citizenship and does not affect your US citizenship at all. You can then be issued a Constancia that will allow you to renew your visa each time it expires and you won't have to worry about a visa the next time you visit.

See site below and read the 2nd paragraph under "Entry Requirements" for the way to stay longer.

I wouldn't bother with the hassle of getting an extended visa. When your time is up, just cross the border into Guatemala, stay for a couple days and go back to Honduras for another 90.

It's difficult to deal with the Visa situation, you need to apply at the consulate in person for an extended visa that relates to family. I can't think of the proper name right now, but the other thing you could do is every time you visa is about to expire go to the closest border and cross it (Go in the morning visit the neighboring country for a while and then in the afternoon return) you'll be able to extend your visa again at that moment.
