First Ecuadorian law prohibit import used cars, you can only import a car only if is brand new, that’s mean you can only bring to the country a car that’s 2008 or the year before 2007, used cars are only permitted if they are used for emergency like ambulance, racing cars for professionals competitions, or ONGs.
If you are in the USA you can use 3 port New York, Philadelphia and Miami
The taxes are very high for imported vehicles for example you need to pay around 35% de cost of the car plus another 12% IVA, plus another 5% local tax, all that together make a $14000 car close to $27,000 for example de Honda Civic in Ecuador cost around $25,000 and the CRV $32,000 (For the Standar Tansmition Models).
In my opinion this is a very stupid law that only benefit the welty people car makers in equator, a poor country were the minimum salary is around $200 per month, how a poor person can dream about to buy a car? Even me that I have some cash flow is virtual impossible to even think buy a new car. |
