7 hrs and no answer?...I'll give it a shot....i don't think they can tell when a volcano will erupt exactly but indicators can tell you that it is likely....with the earthquake that happened in Jan they have found 2 or 3 more new fractures in Poas volcano...i read also that the temperature in it's lake increased 8 degrees just before the earthquake....as far as being active?....no se......... |

they are the ones who studies the cone movements....

I live near poas volcano and the earthquake I almost **** in my pants, lol i trhough that we were going to died. then I realized that wasnt the volcano, its a rupture near to him. also whe have the OVISCORI which is a institution that tell us if somedays is gonna happen.. |

Most volcanoes give plenty of indications of a blast. GAs releases is one. Small unfelt temblors are recorded on seismographs, showing intensity and frequency. SOmetimes there is an raise in the water level of the crater lakes, usually there is an increase in the lake's temperature. In outlying areas the hydrothermal springs and vents (many overwhelmed with health spas) usually show an increase in activity and temperature. People can get a good idea that the volcano is getting ready to blow but just when is much harder. More often then not all these indicators start to build up and then drop down without the volcano actually erupting. At just what point the eruption is inevitable is really unknown for each volcano. Previous eruptions help but each new eruption is usually sufficiently distinct from the volcanoes' historical eruptions to make specific predictions as to time difficult or impossible. (and technical records do not go back all that far anyway.) |
