The beaches in Costa Rica are beautifull when in Guatemala they are a piece of poo. The people in Costa Rica are friendlier.

The beer sucks in Costa Rica, but the night life is better.

I a Guatemlan native and live in Guatemala

I've never been in Guatemala.

Well, it's a different country, for one thing.

They are much more invested in ecology in Costa Rica than in a lot of the rest of Central America.

From a tourist perspective - I've been to both and Costa Rica is a friendlier, prettier, more tourist-friendly location. Guatemala was also beautiful, but less tourist friendly - and not always safe. We had a guide. There is more political unrest in Guatemala - so hiking up in the mountains without a guide isn't recommended.
