I was skeptical on our first trip there, only by way of cruise ship though...we were in port, then off on an excursion through the countryside out to the middle of no wheres...really spectacular country, even on a boat with the crocs it was so relaxing and easy. We walked the seashore later in the evening through the marketplaces and into town a couple time to have some beers at a local bar and never once felt unsafe. Would visit PUNTARENAS again in a heartbeat...Go, enjoy life and experience it for yourself! |

Its very safe to a certain extent, of course just like if you were going to any different city you should aways be alert, make the right choices when it comes to where you walk and at what time and be smart to not have valuable things on you like jewelry and expensive electronics and try to be where there are people. But yes Costa Rica is very safe compared to other places but unfortunately there is crime all over the world. In CR the main problems are in some parts of the capitol San Jose but no worst than some cities of US or other countries. |

Costa Rica is very safe, of course there are some areas that you might want to avoid, but is common sense, you are not going out in the middle of the night by yourself, that would be asking for trouble, people are very friendly and you are going to have a wonderful time, trust me. |

Costa ricca is very safe. It is mostly common with pickpockets and smash and grabs with valubles in cars. THere is not hardly any violence what so ever. Oh and make sure if you catch a cab (taxi) make sure you get one with a number in a orange triangle on the side with a light on top. These are government taxis. Have a nice trip |
