May is in the rainy season. It rains most of the afternoon almost every day. When I say rain I mean "RAIN!!!!". Bring something to read as there is nothing to do outside during this time. I gets really muddy and the roads (dirt) get washed out and the bridges get dangerous.

Here in Golfiito in the southern zone, it rains and hour or two most every day. Oh yea, at about the same time every day too, so you know when it's coming. That way you can plan you daily activities around the rain.

I have been going to Costa Rica for every year over the last twelve years and it only rained there once during their rainy season when I was in San Jose for a week!
Why they call it the "Rainy Season" I will never know!
