Peru has twice as much as California because you have 728 miles from Crescent City to Chula Vista while Peru has 1680 miles from Tumbes to Tacna.
Practically all of the peruvian coast is use full for fishing or recreational purposes and we have one of the planets natural ports. I'm referring to the port of Callao (just like the San Francisco Bay is an other one).
How many beaches? . . . My guess is at least 2,000 but since our coast is rainless, most of it is deserted unless there's a river bringing water from the Andes mountains and therefore creating a valley. there would be like 40 valleys throughout the coast, the rest are very small fishermen settlements.

There is a book/journal done in the late 90s or early 2000s by "El Caminante" (The Walker), this was a guy that went through all the Peruvian coast and wrote a journal about his adventure, you might find information there. He might be the only one who can tell that information, if not you can try contacting the Peruvian Navy Force (Marine & Historic Institute) at iehmp_presidencia@telefonica.net.pe and ask them if they can help you with your question. There are alot because the whole country borders the Pacific Ocean. In Lima there alot of nice ones in the Mira Flores region. They are sandy beaches and are good for swimming or surfing. However the prevailing current is from the south so the water is cold.
