If I remember from my trip in December 2005, the train costs about US$100 or US$65 depending on whether you went for the fast (with a free snack) or slow train (snack to be paid for). The train takes you to Aguas Calientes. From Aguas Calientes, the bus takes about half hour to go up the mountain but can't remember how much the bus cost. The entry into the site was about 100 Soles (about US$30 at the exchange rate at the time). I used http://www.perutreks.com/ to find prices and by the looks of it, it still provides the the info. Bear in mind, you're going in the monsoon season and you're 2.8km high so take wam clothing that will protect you from the rain.

If your a student then take your student card with you.
you can buy your ticket for macchu picchu at the railway station with your railway ticket, you will get this cheaper with your student card.
If your not a student still buy the same tickets from the station its cheaper.
the organised tours will rip you off.
another good trip in cusco is riding horseback around all the other ruins.

have a good trip

dont expect to pay less then $100..! in Cuzco, there are so many agencies that can provide all-in ticket includes; train from Cuzco to the village(i dont remember the name of it) and transport from that village to Macchu pichu and of course the enterance fee. i paid $120 for all of these.this price may be a bit more or less depends of the time you arrive. it was 8 april 2006 when i was there. you should bargain also.

If you booked a package trip, ask your travel agency if Macchu Picchu is included. Many travellers to Peru book an all- inclusive package that includes Macchu Picchu, Cusco and other areas.

This may help:

It's been years since I was there. Enjoy your trip.
