$1 in El Salvador is $1. El Salvador uses the US Dollar as it's currency and has done so since 2001.

Jay
El salvador uses US Dollar (USD)

Elizabeth
$1 is $1. I was there this past summer. They no longer use Colones. Believe me, I spent 4 hours with a bucket of hot tamales on my head yelling "vendo tamales de pollo cinco por un dollar". I was on a missions trip and we were raising money for the local kids.

Salvadors economy is based on the US Dollar so its a dollar,,,,,,,, It will buy alot of stuff there but Honduras,Guatemala and Nicaragua are all cheaper than Salvador

My ♥ Is In The City By The Bay!
El salvador used to have the money called "Colon" but since january 1, 2001 the dollar became the most principal money in circulation. The value of $1 in colones is 8.75. This quantity was assigned and never go high or low to this number, always will be 8.75 its value.

Dr Fred
El Salvador uses the US dollar for normal exchanges. In terms of buying power gas and some imports are a bit more expensive than in the usa but in terms of food, hotels, entertainment it is very inexpensive by us standards. I would say that a good meal may be half the price of a similar meal in the USA when eating out. Hotels may be of lower quality but can be very inexpensive <15-20$ to up to similar prices in the usa (and comparable quality). Electronics, clothes are of similar prices compared to the USA but handcrafts are often extremely cheap.
