I bought my planes tickets for me and my family 1 week ago. One of the most reliable airlines from Lima/Cuzco (yes, you want someting reliable) is LanPeru www.lan.com. You can buy your electronic ticket (without using a travel agent). Mine cost 135 round trip, because I asked for later departures (my sons like to sleep!), but if you are an early bird, there are one way tickets as low as 44 dollars.
Just check the website, and when they ask your country of residence, type "Peru", anyway you will take the flight from Lima, and you dont't want to pay more just because you are overseas.

Now if you have more places to go, i.e. Arequipa, you can do Lima/Cuzco/Arequipa/Lima, for 40 more dollars! a very low price. Probably there are cheaper options, but this is one of the most reputable airlines servicing this route in Peru.

From Cuzco to Machu Picchu (spelling!) you have to take a train. Either from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes (the stop at Machu Picchu town) or from Ollantaytambo to A.C. Check www.perurail.com to get the rates, There is Vistadome (r/t 140 for first class/tourists and the Backpackers (r/t $80). R/t from Cuzco. The ride is about 3 1/2 hours. I suggest you stay one night at A.C. and MachuPicchu at your own pace. Check www.saexplorers.com (South American Explorers) and http://www.andeantravelweb.com/peru/ with great tips for travelers.
Good Luck!

On expedia.com it said that about a month trip round trip is approximately $266 american. there was one flight on Taca Air that was $119, but the rest were beginning at $266.

Hello I'm Marianna Gonzalez, travel agent.
I would not recommend you to go by bus to Cuzco.
The airfare it's about $240 round trip in LAN Peru, you also have $114.20 in Taca, but they only flight certain days.
