How rainy is it in Costa Rica in May and is it busy during that time?

Leaving May 16 just wanted to know if I would get rained out and if it would be crowded down there.

Don't know what you mean by getting rained out, unless you plan on working construction or outdoors. May is the start of the rainy season, and it is taken for granted. Many recreations like canopy tours will hold off (closed for a few hours) if the rain is coming down hard and you just head to the closest bar to wait it out ;-)

But will reopen and continue with business as usual. Other than that, life goes on.

As for being crowded, it is also the start of the slow season, tourism will be down so I would not expect it to be too crowded.

Don't worry about rain/crowds, you will have a good time like everyone else who goes to Costa Rica

Rainy Season means low season, then it will not be crowded. I recommend you to bring a jacket, a raincoat if you visit a National Park, and even it is rainy season you might have sunny mornings as well. It does not mean tha it rains all the long. As you also know tourism has decreased in the recent months due to the crisis, then don't worry about how crowd it is going to be.

Have a nice trip to Costa Rica

May is part o th slow season, so it will not be crowded and some places have slightly lower fees.

The rainy season is well started. On the Atlantic side it rains a lot, every day. In the central area and the Pacific coast it rains for a couple hours in the afternoon and then clears up, usually in time for sunset. It is actually better to visit Costa Rica in the May then before the rainy season when most of the beaches are just too hot to enjoy.

The rainy season is usually oct/nov until the end of jan...we go in Feb every year and I do not recall it raining all day, some lite showers, but then you get the most beautiful rainbows...

Just got back. Spent the month of Feb in Costa Rica. This is the high season. Tourism is down about 80%..........restaurants are EMPTY.......hotels and resorts are begging..........The economy is going to kill Costa Rica tourism..........I couldn't believe it.......restaurant after restaurant empty or just a few tourists. Playla Flamingo to Samara..........empty..............
