In order that the call will not be too expensive tell your friend to dial like this:
For example if your number is 478-1246-1245
134-001-478-1246-1245 or
147-001-478-1246-1245
And the cost of the call will be lower than dialing directly 001 + the area code + the number.

I don't know the answer to that, but I do know the best way to save money. Buy a re-conditioned cell phone and a card with minutes. It is VERY inexpensive, usually about five cents per minute to the U.S.
I travel to Guatemala frequently, and my host there always gets one for me, so unfortunately, I don't know where to buy it. They seem very popular, though. I would bet that anyone at a hotel can tell you where to obtain one. |
