Husband and I going to Costa Rica?

Anyone have any advise? Good hotels (that are not outrageous?) Good food? Beaches? Activities.

Also the big one we are thinking about going in March the plane tickets for two people round trip in March is $304.00. Is March a good time to travel there?

Great deal on airfare!!! March is a great time to go. The dry season is officially over (with heavy tourist) but the rain hasn't really started picking up yet, so you won't get rained out.

Here are a couple of hotels in the Manual Antonio area. Beautiful beach, National Park, plenty of great food, lots of activities (white water rafting, surfing, scuba, kayaking, zip lining, hiking, biking, horseback riding, rappelling ATVs, fishing, etc)

I have been there 4 times. San Jose is a good place to go. It is central to lots of day trips and has an interesting museum on Pre- Colombian
gold. Jaco Beach is good too. So is Guanocast in the far north-west.
DO NOT miss seeing a volcano. There are several to choose, Pois and Alraino among them ( pardon my spelling) . With Pois you can go right to the edge of the crater ( and climb it if you want). With Alraino they will not let you go near. It is very active. Take lots of day trips. It is a great place to visit.

We were there last Feb. and we loved it. The food was great and cheap, the beaches were nice as well but be careful of the rip tides, they are very dangerous and they try to downplay that so you aren't scared to come there. We stayed half of the time at a hotel call Xandari that my husband saw on the travel channel. It was over rated and over priced. We had no problem just finding a hotel as we traveled around and when we go back down we will just do that. Be sure to go to La Pas. It's wonderful there as well as Poas. We liked the beach at Manuel Antonio and spent a day there. There was a wonderful garden called Else Kientzler Botanical Garden. It just opened a couple years ago and was so beautiful if you enjoy places like that. Be sure to rent a car, making sure it's like an SUV and just go places. There's so much to see and the people are wonderful! We stayed in Monteverde a couple days and liked it. Drove through Jaco and didn't like it. If you like coffee go to Doka coffee plantation. It was nice also. Can't say we did anything we didn't like. Be careful of the scorpions, they are everywhere but not a problem if you are aware of them. I'm jealous, I wish we were going too!

You spent a lot less than we did getting down there. We spent about $1000 per person, but that was during winter break which is the busiest time of year. One of the most popular things to do in Costa Rica is try a zip line. There are companies all around the country, and it is very fun. Also, the beaches are very beautiful. We went to a place called Dominical which has many beaches, and is a surf town, so if you want to try surfing, there are rental shops everywhere. In San Jose there is a beautiful hotel called "Hotel Aranjuez". It is better than most hotels I've been to here in the US. Just outside of San Jose there is a volcano called Poas, and you can walk up a paved path and see the crater. Have fun!

I would look into either the Drake Bay area or Guanacaste province. Both are located on the Pacific. Drake Bay is located in the southern Pacific region of Costa Rica and offers beautiful beaches, rainforest, coral reefs, waterfalls. Depending upon what you like to do, there are bio-diverse vacation packages for that area. Now if you prefer the "hotel" life along the beach, then I would recommend the Guanacaste province. Here are two links that will give you more information about the regions.

Costa Rica has too many places to go and see.
Hotels : Hotel La Pitahaya near downtown San Jose
Includes breakfast and is cheap and clean., tell them I sent you for a discount. Lic.Gregory Kearney Lawson (506)8-841-0007
$304 is the lowest airfare I“ve seen so far.
March is a good time to come it is still warm and sunny, showers start around April.
Your friends in the military don“t know what there talking about and are just full of bologna.
Just use common sense like anywhere else.
It is safer than most US cities.
They like foreigners in Costa Rica and the people are very helpful.

You can expect a little rain in March. If you guys want to go wild, you should try Jaco. I'll link an article... Hope it helps!
