Get a Spanish speaking girl friend. If you have one who also speaks some English and you immerse yourself in Spanish and ask her questions during your time with her, you will learn it far faster than by just hanging out, or going to a school.

TOMATITA
Yes, get involved with other people. There are a lot of groups organized by young people which do a lot of social work. Try to make friends, young chileans are very friendly, so try to get close to them.

Fulanito
Well you're immersing yourself where the majority of people speak Spanish, that is a good 1st step. However, there is no quick way, everyone learns at their own pace. When your in Chile, make friends with some locals and practice every day.

Force yourself to speak Spanish and only Spanish, don't speak English with the other students unless you really need to.
