You do not need to reject your U.S. citizenship. You may have dual citizenship. Every country i know of reauires you to reside in the country for at least 5 years on the appropriate visa before applying for citizenship. Some countries shorten this period if you are married to a citizen. costa Rica gives NO info on citizenship on their embassy website. you will need to contact the nearest Costa Rican consulate in the U.S. to ask what the law is in Costa Rica. See 3rd site below. i am an American living in Mexico...here one must be here on a non-immigrant visa for 5 years, then on an immigrant visa for 2 years, then may apply for citizenship...which takes 2 years. marriage to a citizen can shorten this by about 2 years, but you must be residing in Mexico.

Edit...just saw answerer above found immigration info on the consulate site...hope that helps.

yes, u can get a dual citizenship, u dont have 2 reject ur US citizenship. If you are an American citizen, then you have to become a costa rica resident first. After you are a resident for seven years, then you can apply for citizenship.

I think this link will be useful to you:

If you speak Spanish, you can read the whole Costa Rican Immigration Law here:
http://www.migracion.go.cr/planificacion/Ley%20de%20Migracion-8487.pdf

I hope this helps.
