I am going to Venezuela, any last minute suggestions/tips?

My plane leaves in 3 days and I will spend 2 weeks there visiting my fiance's family with him. Any tips? nice places to see? fun things to do? Warnings I should be aware of?

President Chavez considers us as devils in the United States, so I would be very low key about where you are from if from US.

Kill Chavez for us... Remember, Confucious once said that assassination is the HIGHEST form of public service! lol

Just know that you are going to a place that is full in culture and is beautiful. Leave all your worries behind. Always order bottle water. Some people are not used to their water. But enjoy! Learn a little Spanish while you are there.

Make sure you bring a nice gift to his family. Like some nice cookies and a beautiful table cloth. Most of all relax and have a good time.

Make sure you partake in their local traditions and don't judge them or turn your nose up to any food or cultural situation.

Just know your fiance loves you and they will to.

Pack VERY lightly. Everything you bring should be multi-use. Stick with one color theme. Remember to bring one nice outfit for evening/party use. Coordinate everything.
Bring small, appropriately priced gifts typical of your part of the country (maple candy if you're in the NE is a good idea).

Go to your airline's website and read the restrictions about what you can take in your carryon bags. You can take small amounts of liquids, hand lotion, and makeup on board if they are in a ziploc bag. All drinking water must be purchased after the security check.

Put your passport/visa in the purse you'll be taking right now.

I've not been to Venezuela, but I've heard it's a lovely, vibrant, exciting place to go. It is a huge country similar to the US in that it has a widely varied scenery.

Please be careful, as one answerer suggests. Americans are not often well-received. Keep a low profile and be gracious.

I was there last year in Caracas for Christmas and I had a great time. You'll have a great time for Christmas and you'll see lots of fireworks. Warnings that you should be aware of is that you shouldn't wear any jewelry at all, not even rings. Nice places to see? well, if you go to caracas, east caracas is the best place to be. I really don't like west caracas. There are a lot of malls that you can go to, restaurants, and a really great place to go that I really recommend is the mountain El Avila. It has a fonicular that you get to ride all the way to the top. Once you get to the top they have places to eat and even an iceskating place. I went there and it was the greatest place to visit!! I highly recommend you go. Once you start going up the mountain, you can see the view of the whole city really beautiful.

Venezuelans are really really great people that love to laugh, have a good time, and make you feel like home.
Hope you have a great time!!

Well to me it sounds like your going on vacation so just leave all your worries behind because its not really vacation if your stressed right?

Vzla
Well, not sure if you already left but do you know which city are you going? Regardless the political situation Venezuela (Vzla) it's a beautiful country. Nice food, great drinks, friendly people, amazing natural scenarios, etc. No matter where you go I'm sure that if you are with locals (your fiance family) you'll be OK. Just be aware of what's going on around you and be careful with your personal belongings. Do not wear jewelry. Have fun and try to go to the beach and go out on Fridays and Saturdays nights!
Pack light, lots of dress, skirts, light jacket, swim suit, sandals since the weather is very nice around 70-90 F. If you are going to Caracas try to stay in the East side and visit (1) Centro San Ignacio, (2) El Tolon en las mercedes, (3) Avila Mountain there is a national park and you can get into the cable cars. Really nice! You can see the whole city at the same time you see the Caribean Sea!!
Try the Hallacas that's the special Christmas dish, try cachapas, ponche crema and pan de jamon. You will love all these! Feel free to e-mail me if you have more questions.

OK.. I lived in Venezuela. It's a nice place but now a days, be careful. It's getting very dangerous there and just be aware of your surroundings. The nature around there is beautiful, you might want to see that. I'm from Caracas and the restaurants there are really good. There are many really nice Italian restaurants that you could try. A few malls around there and cool stores. Christmas there was fun, try Hallacas, even though I thought they were gross, LOL. Those are very traditional in Venezuela.
Have a fun, and safe trip. :)

Hi, us venezuelan are very friendly so you will feel well, acepted and respected. I guess you're going to Caracas, but If you had the chance, I would suggest Merida. It is a cold and beautiful city, very safe. Ask your boyfriend about "heladeria coromoto" (it is a place in merida where you can eat aaaaaaany kind of ice cream you want.It is in the record guiness..)...There are so many nice things yopu can se in Venezuela...but you didnt tell us where exactly are you going!!!

stephenl1950
Don't go.

Mrs. Me
make sure you only go to safe places in the city- dont wear nice jewelry in the street. dont be shocked by armed security guards and electrified fences around buildings. Venezuela is really dirty and falling apart. I know that because my family is from there. I used to go every vacation as a kid and could ride the metro by myself. It used to be safe(r), clean, beautiful. Now its a dump, full of poverty and litter and crime and it makes me really sad.
