Mal Pais, which is just an amazing place to chill and meet people. Good parties too. If you want to head down to Dominical you can hire a beach house there really cheap but it is much quieter. Also, I loved Porto Viejo, on the Carribean coast and is just stunning with beautiful rainforests!

Go to all the places Loretta C mentioned (my favorites!) plus Arenal Volcano

Costa Rica is one of those beautiful places to choose as a vacation destination. I hope the article would help you out to decide. Thanks!

Everything mentioned by others I back up 100%. However, no one mentioned the canopy tour in Braulio Carrillo National Park or the boat trip up the canals of Tortuguero National Park. Stay at the Mowambo Lodge and take the canal boat tours into the rain forest. Saw a boa constrictor sunning itself on the beach path while there. Also saw a boa killing an iguana on a stop we made on our way to Jaco. Hope you get to see the Macaws....we missed them as they had moved into another area for food. Lots of toucans, butterflies and other colourful birds...as well as monkeys, sloths, lizards etc.

The Cafe Britt (coffee plantation) tour was a riot (just outside of San Jose) and I have been ordering coffee from there ever since.

Hola,

all very good recommendations, however, I suggest you visit the OSA peninsula. It is found in the southern pacific region of Costa Rica and it used to be an island so there are many species in this particular rain forest that are endemic to the area. Corcovado National park is here, Drake Bay is a beautiful bay area that is remote, you most likely have to take a taxi boat through mangrove forest to get there.

If you Like surf and the beach, Dominical and Matapalo are beaches just north of the peninsula and Manuel Antonio National park and beaches are just north of there. I think in 10 days you could travel to three of these locations and have a really amazing time!

this link is specific for the south-pacific, however there is info on all the destinations that have been recommended to you also.

William A has a good handle on some fantastic places to visit. If you are in need of more Google Overseas Adventure Travels, look up their Affordable Costa Rica trip, click on "detailed daily itinerary" and print it out. You'll have a lot of info in your hand in no time.....

If you spend time in San Jose go to Calle Amargura, which is next to the University of CR and has a bunch of fun bars and beautiful people.

The beaches south of Jaco are good also. Between Jaco and Manuel Antonio is a giant house/hotel called Rancho Grande which is owned by an American but has an awesome beach.

Manuel Antonio is a great place to see all three types of monkeys. Go early in the morning and you might run into some howlers like I did (they are the second loudest land animal in the world).

10 days isn;t much much if you hit the beaches South of Jaco and see the jungles in Manuel Antonio and up in Monteverde it should be a great trip.
