You dont have to take a shore excursion, they Cruise Line can't even make you get off the ship at that port if you don't want to. I went of a cruise last summer and even if you werent willing to spend the money to do one of the organized shore excursions, you could still get off the ship and just wander around site seeing if you wanted to or you could stay on the ship the entire time if that's what you desired. Good luck, have a blast!
P.S. different excursions cost different prices the deep sea fishing we did was kind of expensive but it was well worth it. The kayaking and horse-back riding was moderatley priced, also well worth it. |

The excursion on the railroad is the favorite. It goes by the Canal. It shoud cost around 70.00. Once you get to the City, you can choose another City Tour.
Have fun!! |

Ships that dock at Colon usually don't cross the canal. Ship that cross the canal usually drop anchor off the Amador Causeway. It's fairly easy to grap a taxi, they all know when the ships are in port. You can barter for a price before you get in the cab and you can have them give you a city tour. The going rate for a regular taxi is $8 an hour. They have a T in the first position of their license plate followed by number. The tourist taxis have SET followed by numbers and they charge more. I don't know what their going rate is, but I wouldn't use them. They don't know anymore than the other guys. You need to do a little research and find out what you want to see. Panama is worth seeing there's a lot going on in a very small space |

I was on a cruise ship that docked in Colon. I took a train from Colon to Panama City. The train ran along side the Panama Canal all the way. It took about an hour. The train was very clean and comfortable. It was a replica of the Orient Express. It was a great way to spend the day. Don't go into Colon, it looks very seedy and unsafe. |
