I found Santiago really boring. Did I miss things or is it just an uninteresting city?

Like any large city, you really need to plan ahead according to your interests and know where to go.

I love Santiago. The food is great the people are amazing and there is a lot to do and see. Sometimes you need to go off the beaten path and get to know the people and the culture. Having said that, I perfer the chilean small towns...

Well Santiago definatly isn't my favorite city travelled, but I would say it wasn't completly boring. It is just that though, a city. People live and work, creating a pretty everyday mundane experience.

What we found fun was the Plaza de Armas on the weekends, usually a fun place in any Latin American city on a weekend, the Childrens museum was great fun, the westernized civilization was fun (after travelling for some months), and the beutiful views of the setting sun against the Andes.

Just curious

Well, it certainly isn't Paris or New York. But I found Santiago to be a nice "little" metropoli. Its people are for sure its strongest feature. Walking around the downtown area was interesting and also the Paris Londres area is nice, eating at the Mercado Central was amazing, Bellavista an Las Condes are good areas to hand out at night, museums are pretty decent, people have lots of knowledge so it's nice to have a chat with them, wine touring (or even trying wines within Santiago) is a good option too. This is just what came into my mind right now, there are many other things to do.

It could be your frame of mind at the time. I've found Sydney Australia just the same.

Bruce
I also find it not that interesting. I don't think you missed much, but boring really is a relative term!

stargazer
u missed things. it can be very exciting, but like a lot of other places, you gotta know where to go (and if you have someone to go with, even better!). it's not buenos aires, but it holds its own

Hmm... I don't like santiago either, but I don't think it's boring... there are a lot of things to do there and a lot of places to visit so I'd say you just had bad luck... anyhow... in summer, santiago is not the best place to be, since everybode tries to escape from the city and go somewhere else...

know-it-all
there's nothing to miss in santiago...

As long as yourself are happy, everywhere is interesting

Next time and if you read spanish get this book: "Santiago Bizarro" by Sergio Paz. Similar to ‘New York is a city of things unnoticed’, de G. Talese, it shows the hidden, different side of the city.
Trips for the day can be towards the mountains, ski resorts such as valle nevado and el colorado are only an hour away from the city.
If you prefer trekking or just a great view the Cajon del Maipo is only an hour away, there you can enjoy clean air, rafting down river Maipo, horseback riding, etc.
2 hours away is the port of Valparaiso (arquitecture and nightlife) and its neighboring city Viña del Mar (beaches).
