I have just found 26000 peruvian soles de oro. Can they still be converted to sterling pounds?
I came accross 26000 peruvian soles de oro. I heard they went out of circulation some time ago, are they worth anything or could i still convert them into british sterling? They must have belonged to my husband who was in the navy.
Definitely you have now in your hands a "collector's item".
Soles de oro have not been around almost for 20 years, so, changing it to euros might not be worth it.
Instead, try to sell them to a collector or just keep it, and for sure in the future you will make more money selling it.
Good luck!

they use the nuevo sol now so it isn't legal currency and even if it was you would have trouble converting it to anything outside Peru. Collectors might buy it off you though.

Most people who are looking for the now-defunct currency of "soles de oro" are collectors.
The value of the money is based on its condition and its age.
See the link appended: for example, 10000 soles de oro from 1982 would be worth about $6.50 US (in mint condition). This means your stash is worth slightly less than $17 US ... which works out to be about 8.61 GBP at today's exchange rate.
My guess is that your husband didn't figure the Peruvian bills were worth the hassle of actual exchange.

I am afraid you won´t be able to change them and that even if you would you would be getting peanuts, however I suggest that you keep them as a souvenir of Perú : You can still find keychains made with them at the Handicraft Markets in Perú!
