Oh Brother. Bogota had gotten better in EVERY way since Pastrana and Barco got out of Office. Crime is WAY down in Bogota since then. Youre chances of getting kidnapped are low to none -especially in the major zones of Bogota (Zona T, for example)
I have an apt on 127D and 19. We have had zero problems. You do have to use your head.. Not flash cash and etc. But I have taken taxis from everywhere to everywhere.. and not a problem I even left my cell phone in a taxi.. Called it.. and the guy brought it back to my Hotel (No lie!) I love carbon de palo on 106. I love to visit Monserrate on the weekends. I love to dance at El Mirador.. Bogota is as safe or SAFER than any city of its sized.
Go.. youll love it more than ever. |

I did not travel to Bogota in the 80's but I have been several times in the past two years. It is my favorite city to visit. The city is huge and in many respects it is very modern. The traffic can be overwhelming at times but it is no worse than another city of 8 to 9,000,000. There are slums but many beautiful and historical sites. I think the biggest difference now may be in the safety. From what I have read, Bogota and Colombia were not very safe then. Now you should have little, if any trouble, if you pay attention to what you are doing. Good luck and have fun. |

It has changed loads since the 80's the guy who put they hate Americans has no brain cells as you would know if you have visited before.
There is so much more there now. The night life there is the best in Colombia without doubt. The shopping is second best, my city (Medellin) has the best shopping experience, but in Bogota it is still great.
I love Bogota as I have many family there and there is loads to do, you still have all the historic parts so for the people who like the culture you can still find it very easily. As the first guy said it is much safer now than in the 80's too, so you really do not need to worry, it is just like visiting any other big cities in the world.
All the food is just as good. Do not forget to pack your jacket as it is still just as cold. |

I bet it used to look rather pretty but interesting all the same it looks rather 80's style I bet the decor is still 80's style. Why is it that most hotels have crazy carpets? :) |
