The Mayans used to call the western part of the country Cuscatlan, meaning land of precious jewels.
San Salvador was started as a plantation.
El Salvador was named after San Salvador, not the other way around.

I have a few facts you could choose from. One is that history shows a LARGE earthquake every 10 years which bring desolation to the entire nation (the last one being in 2001), of course if you live there you will feel small ones almost everyday sometimes. Also there are reportably over 25 volcanoes in the nation although not all are active. there are over 350 000 abandoned children in the nation and El Salvador is a leader in Gang Violance. Another interesting fact is that the people of El Salvador are VERY friendly and will go out of their way to help. If you need directions you will not just be told where to go, but quite often shown. It is the smallest most densly populated mainland country in Central America too. Oh AND unlike its neighbours only has 1% amerindian population, with 90% being mestizo or MIXED-so the people are descendant of both indigenous peoples and europeans. |

Incredo is wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
El Salvador means "The Savior." Named by the Catholics. It's bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west, and Guatemala to the East. The main language is Spanish, but, Indian tribes there have their own dialect, also. They had an EARTH QUAKE there last AUGUST, 2 DAYS after I LEFT, in the capital city, San alvador!! |
