Hi, well the situation in Venezuela is not as dangerous as it seems to be from outside the country. People are helpful and talkative with strangers. You are going to be safe if you avoid taking risks. For instance, use only the taxis authorized by the airport when arrive, do not go out alone at night...
This is a country with people who enjoy the Christmas holidays with fun and celebrations !!
However, and there is always a however, we are suffering from a high rate of crime from the last years, especially in the big cities; small cities and towns are a lot much safer...so it is advisable to hide your valuable things when you walk down the streets in Caracas and do not trust in what anyone that meet you by chance "advices" you to do. Normally they are thieves. Enjoy your trip!! |

If you stay out of the urban areas, which are sometimes rife with violence or political unrest, you can enjoy a safe vacation in Venezuela full of wonderful adventures.I would point out that you will be with your father and he would advice you of which areas to avoid.
Venezuela is safer than many other South American countries. However, crime is not uncommon. Many windows are barred and some shops use security guards. Lately crime in big cities has increased, especially in Caracas.
if you follow these safety tips
Keep money well hidden. A money belt that sits under clothes is a probably the best way to carry cash, passport etc.
Split your money. Deposit large sums in a hotel safe.
Take travellers cheques as these carry insurance.
Expensive items (cameras etc.) should be carried and used inconspicuously
Don´t leave luggage unattended.
Don´t leave possessions in a car
Avoid walking alone late at night.
These safety tips are precautionary. Many areas are safe and most travellers in Venezuela experience no trouble. The most important thing to remember is to use common sense! Im sure Your Dad will take good care of you |

Caracas is just as dangerous as any other big city. Just take the normal precautions (follow the advice of the people who previously answered). Venezuela as a country is very beautiful, the people are great and it´s a nice place to visit. It unfortunately gets a bad rap from all world media. I am a foreigner living here and have experienced no problems and yet I find myself defending Venezuela to people from my country because of all the negative things they hear on the news. Hope everything works out. |
