Jeans are a bad idea if you are going to be doing anything physical and shorts are even worse, you might as well go barefoot too.

The best thing to do is to wear somewhat loose fitting long pants. That way, if a snake does decide to strick you then you just hope it aims for a part of your pants where your leg is not.

Carry a snake bite kit with you and be smart about where you walk and when you do it. Do these things and you'll be fine.

If you are that worried about snake bite. Go to Cabelas and order a pair of snake boots. They guarantee that a snake will not bite throught them and they come to your knees.

I admit the fur de lance will give you pause to worry.

I would suggest high top bots. Jeans are cloth. I don't think your gonna find any jeans or material to prevent snake bites. Their fangs are VERY SHARP and are there to penetrate many surfaces.

i've been to costa rica twice. neither time did i encounter poisonous snakes. nevertheless, it's not bad to be precautious. my advice, stick to tall boots and where lightweight pants. costa rica is hot and wet, the last thing you need is heavy pants.
