There is a lot to do in Costa Rica and without knowing anything about you or your likes/dislikes it is impossible to make any suggestions. The best thing to do is to get a guide book (Lonely Planet and Moon guide are my favorites) and get a feel of the country and then figure out where you want to visit.

Come back here for any specific questions

I have been several times and I love the southern pacific region, Dominical, Manuel Antonio, Uvita, Quepos. These places are much different then the north where it is more desert like. The southern pacific is true rain forest with amazing wild life and flora. Dominical is spectacular, I always stay at The Necochea Inn a bed and breakfast. The beaches are very clean and they have a lifeguard. There are horseback riding tours that take you to a amazing waterfall to swim. You can do the canopy tour on a zip line. You can go white water rafting which is a blast.

This is not an understatement: IT IS HOT there. Make sure you take appropriate sunscreen. The best time to go is November thru April which is the dry season. The people (ticos) are very nice and helpful. They are very family oriented and you will not find a cleaner country where the people love there jungle. Just keep your eyes closed going through San Jose, it is large, overcrowded and dirty. I would not reccommend staying in San Jose at all. Try to get to C.R. earlier in the day so you can get to your destination. You can catch a hopper flight from San Jose to many other locations. If you rent a car it will need to be 4 wheel drive, the roads are still very primitive in some parts even though they are getting better over the past 10 years.

Have fun and relax!!

Well, what do you want to do?

Do you like the beach? The jungle? Volcano's? Surfing?

Hello.

If you are one ecotraveler, you must visit the southern region because is very green and focussed in ecotourism.
You can visit http://www.haciendabaru.com for birdwatching or canopy tour or chose for http://www.corcovadoexpeditions.net for whale watching (http://www.dolphintourcostarica.com ), scuba diving or corcovado national park.

At any way, one good explanation of all ecotouristic activities in southerncostarica is on: http://www.southerncostarica.biz/Activities/

And if you are thinking in hotels or ecolodges:

thanks.

one thing to remember, if you want to go to a Central American country but don't like the rain, then don't go during the summertime over here, because almost everyday it rains.
