I love Rio and would LOVE to live there, if I could. Unfortunately, I doubt I could find a good job there and I don't speak Portuguese (though it's possible to get by with Spanish, since everyone will understand at least half of what YOU say, though you probably won't get much of what THEY say).
Still....spectacularly beautiful city. Great food. Magnificent vibe. It's probably my favorite city in the world... |

I advise that you take a trip there first. If you really don't know that much about it I think that you would have a difficult time adjusting to all the culture, language, etc. there. Good luck |

im from brazil, sao paulo, i've been to rio de janeiro and i have many friends from there. rio is a big city, a very beautiful city, its known as the wonderful city for us. however, rio became very dangerous, a lot of crime and stuff. i wouldnt advice you to move to rio, specially cuz as u said, u dont know much about it. not knowing the language makes everything much harder. if u take classes to learn portuguese things will be easier. u will find a job only if u know good portuguese, or else u wont have any future here. if ur really willing to do it though, try learning more about our culture (its much different, idk if ur american or not, but i lived in LA, and i know how hard it was for me to get used to the way americans are), its not all about soccer and samba as most of people say lol
if u need more information, feel free to contact me =) |

Yes, it's a huge city with a great climate and lots of opportunities. I know because I live in Rio. However, it's important to realize that Brazil is not a first world nation, so there are lower standards for public utilities like the police. You can still lead a great live here, I personally know many foreigners from places like the U.S. and France who are happy in Rio. The city is very large, look it up on Google Maps. You'll also need to contact the nearest Brazilian Embassy to find out if your diplomas will be recognized here.
Another issue is the Portuguese language, which looks like Spanish, but sounds very different. Almost no one here speaks any language other than Portuguese, so you'll have to master it as soon as possible. |

You want to get a good job in Brazil? That's interesting. I know plenty of unemployed brazilians who also would like to get a good job here in their own country. Why don't we do an exchange? we go to get a good job in your country and you come to get a good job here. |

The first problem is you to learn to speak Portuguese, the second problem is the validity of foreign diplomas in Brazil, as they don't give validity to the Brazilian diplomas in the exterior for reciprocity Brazil doesn't recognize the foreign diplomas. Like this being if you have a profession to demand professional registration will have problems.
As to live in Rio it will be very pleasant and it is not impressed with preconceived judgements on Rio, they are usually emitted by people that were never for here. The Brazilians are recognized internationally as good hosts. |

I'm from Rio. Yes, it is a beautiful and big city. The cost of living is much lower compared to the UK and life there is really fun, There is a party, carnival atmosphere the whole year. However, if you are British you can only visit the country as a tourist, unless you marry a brazilian. Well, maybe I could help you with that. LOL. Good luck! |

Can you speak the lingo....
Have you a career that they need people for...
Big city - full of crime - full of Aids riddled people - people will shoot you as soon as look at you...Dirty (except for the main tourist bits).
Main exports from Brazil (Rio) are Porn and HIV - there you go - the lowdown - ENJOY |
